Main activities are:

  • Providing scientific and methodological guidance about the system of hydrological observations in the Russian Federation.
  • Developing methods and technologies for hydrological observations and data processing.
  • Conducting scientific-methodical inspections of Roshydromet Institutions, hydrological stations and posts in the Russian Federation.
  • Performing an annual review of the functioning of the hydrological network.
  • Updating the database of hydrological stations.
  • Making conclusions about the possibility of opening, transferring, closing or changing hydrological stations.
  • Developing the scientific basis for the rationalization and development of the hydrological network and the principles used for optimizing the placement of hydrological stations;
  • Developing and improving methods for calculating hydrological parameters;

Developing a methodological framework for assessing the accuracy of measurements and certifying measurement methods at hydrological stations, as well as methods for assessing errors
